FEJA DeKalb Solar
Challenge: Customer changes required expediting a complete re-design of the entire project
Solution: Shuffle other FEJA projects and resources to accomplish the expedited schedule
Result: Successful interconnection of DeKalb Solar LLC’s solar farm to ComEd’s 13kV distribution system
DeKalb Solar LLC is a developer of a solar farm in DeKalb, IL, and requested interconnection to ComEd’s 13kV distribution system. Milhouse was responsible for the distribution design to connect ComEd’s 13kV system to the solar farm, the construction drawings required to complete the relay upgrade, and ordering the necessary materials.

The scope of work included:
» Installation of a 60’ double-circuit T-corner pole
» 45’ cable termination pole
» Approximately 60’ of 13kV 3-phase underground cable in 5” conduit encased in concrete
» Pad-mounted recloser
» Pad-mounted primary metering cabinet
» A distribution automation radio on an existing pole

Milhouse was responsible for:
» Project construction drawings
» Design in the client’s GIS system
» Solar customer demarcation drawings
» Material procurement
» All construction permitting
» Relay upgrades at the substation
Our team’s work also included a design to replace the electro-mechanical relaying with a microprocessor package consisting of an SEL-351S and SEL-751 and adding two voltage sensors on the line side of the breaker to enable sync check.
